Scientific Management

Scientific Management, also known as Taylorism, is about analyzing and synthesizing the workflow of companies, increasing productivity and profits. Scientific Management, as its implied on the name, is about applying the scientific method into the workplace. It is believed that decisions based on traditions and rules of thumb should be replaced by precise and correct procedures. These procedures are developed after a careful study of the individual during work, and them analyzing best solutions that would make the work more productive.

Videos

In this video you can understand basically what my work was about. It explains how the stopwatch was a fundamental tool for my theories, and how using the correct tool are also important for the business. Many workers did not like my ideas, because for them i took the liberty of their own bodies, by dictating what movements to do, and how many movements to do. That was my mistake of treating the human being as a machine.

This movie shows the regular day of a worker that adopted taylorism in his way of work. Nice from Chaplim to do such a tribute. (Irony)

Some important things about my theory:

1- Its important to understand that every worker is different, and each one posses a particular skill in with they are better. It's the task of the manager to place the worker accordingly to their abilities.

2- Managing time is important for any organization. Worker may get tired fast if they must do work without proper breaks, but may also produce low quantities if there is much time during breaks. Its important to have an equilibrium.

3- There is always a proper way to do something. Sometimes, a change in a small movement can increase profits at long terms.

4- Cooperation between management and workers. O closer relationship allow that the managers make sure worker are using the correct methods.

Workshop: Time and Motion

Let's put Time and Motion into practice! I this workshop we will simulate a toy factory, where each one will be given a certain task. I will give each one of the participant a basically entrainment for the task they will be encharged of. The ideas is to help people understand how my theories where applied during the beginning of the 20th century.

The "toys" will actually by legos, and each person will be putting certain pieces together. There is a correct way to put each piece together, and every movement must be done in a certain amount of time stated by me.
